☕Welcome to MotherMorphosis, where I write about the transformation into and within motherhood (which I learned never ends, even when the kids become adults).
You’ll find stories about these topics.
🤰Mothering (duh). These slice-of-life stories are the original purpose of this blog and my books. They’re about raising three boys mostly on my own (like how Gen X does everything) and comprise simple, everyday moments that have collectively ushered my sons into adulthood. Many of them are stories from my syndicated column, “Boy to the World” (which is also the title of one of my books).
🪴Re-Parenting. What do you know? I realized that I was parenting the way I wish I had been, so some of these stories talk about childhood trauma and learning to give myself the kindness and understanding I didn’t get as a kid. Our parents do the best that they can. That being said, I grew up with two alcoholic parents who separated when I was five years old. My father completely checked out by the time I was 11, and my mother received a cancer diagnosis when I was 15. We moved 12 times before I was 18, and only one of those times was because of my dad’s military service—he was a Navy doctor during the Vietnam War. I also had four step-father figures, and we hosted five different male boarders when I was between 11ish and 14. After becoming a mom, I realized my parents' best wasn't that good.🛼Sports and Health. I've included some stories about my perspective on food, fitness, and sports.
💰Money-ish is about work, finances, and life as a single mom, including lessons I teach my boys about finances, priorities, and independence.
⛅Higher-Powered. Here are my thoughts about gratitude, purpose, and connecting with something greater than myself. There are both church-y and recovery stories.
GenX Diaries. These are memories and reflections from growing up mostly feral. Sometimes I wonder how I reached adulthood.
This Thing Called “Life” encompasses my observations and feelings about current events: the world as I see it.
I don’t have all the answers. All I have is stories to share. Thanks for being here.
